Regulatory Reforms and Industry Initiatives at Clean Energy Crossroads

The year 2019 was unusual due tmajoefforts to reform renewable energy and environmental impact assessment guidelines hat have been on the books for decades.These laws and guidance have affected the renewable energy and natural gas facilities. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the President's Council on Environmental Quality started to reform the 40-year-old Public Utility Regulatory PoliciesAct (PURPA) and the 50-year-old National Environ­mental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), respectively. Also, the American Gas Foundation and the National Petroleum Council published several reports on plans to decarbonize natural gas and accelerate carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS).
